How MIT students are combating racism with Python and data analysis

On September 19, 2023 at 2:00 pm till 3:00 pm
Online

Ben Lewis TPP ’24 and Jessy Han are graduate students from MIT contributing to the ICSR project which aims to create datasets that can be accessed from a website or via python libraries. The information is using criminal justice, housing, social media, and other public data linked to areas in our society most influenced by systemic racism. The primary goals are to: a/ provide data to researchers around the globe for projects to inform policies that will enhance equity in these areas; b/ educate people interested in criminal justice, or other forms of social justice, who are unfamiliar with data science tools that could highlight and remedy these inequalities. Creating the data, and teaching people with a passion for justice on how to better use the data for analysis, and even machine learning will help create a more just future for society.
